INCREASE RESPONSES & INTEREST FROM COACHES
The best way to initiate communication with coaches is to send personalized emails. This is the secret sauce to catching the attention of coaches in any sport! Other recruiting services send mass emails to hundreds of coaches on behalf of athletes. This strategy is a quick way to just throw your options out there to sees what sticks. This strategy is a common way to eliminate hours of work involved in writing individualized emails. However, we have found that this strategy may dramatically reduce responses and interest from coaches.
We interviewed over 250 college coaches and 90% of them said they delete emails from recruiting services. Why? Because they believe that if an athlete was truly interested in being a part of their team, that athlete would take the time to write a personalized email.
The Surefire program teaches athletes how to write effective emails and communicate professionally. We also provide a timeline that outlines when the best times of the year are to reach out to coaches and how to perform an interview over the phone. One of the most attractive things to a college coach is an athlete that is proactive and has leadership characteristics. Most Coaches do not judge you solely on your strength, speed or agility because their job is to take the talent you possess and train you to be your best. Additionally, we provide you with list of schools that you match with so you don't have to perform endless hours of research on thousands of schools.
KNOW WHAT TO DO, WHEN TO DO IT AND HOW!
Every sport is different when it comes to recruiting timelines and calendars. Every coach is different when it comes to what they are looking for and what information they need from you. So how do you know what to do and when to do it? The solution is simple and goes right back to learning effective communication. Ask every coach questions that help know what you need to do, how you need to do it and when. There are some critical questions that every athlete should ask a coach. Surefire has compiled a list of the most important questions to ask about athletics and academics in order to determine if a school and team is right for you.
HAVE YOU TAKEN THE SAT OR ACT YET?
How do you know which test will be the right fit for you? Surefire provides you with a thorough understanding of how both standardized test work and what qualities each possess. Taking either of these exams as soon as you are able and at least 2 times will help you increase your prospects for an academic scholarship. It is best to have taken, or plan to take, one of the exams by the time you contact coaches. Some coaches have admissions influence and some do not. Regardless, coaches are attracted to athletes with good academic standing so having good scores will give you an advantage.
HOW DO COACHES AWARD SCHOLARSHIP?
If you are in a position where you need more than 25% in athletic aid, your athletic abilities will become a greater determining factoring in how much aid you qualify for. How do you know what the standards are in order to qualify for a scholarship? Every coach has different standards and therefore you will need to ask each coach you contact what their specific standards are. We highly encourage you to contact coaches early and ask them this question so you give yourself time to achieve the standards set. The more information you have, the better position you will be in.
WHAT MAKES SUREFIRE DIFFERENT
Our focus is on finding the right school and team for every athlete we work with. We provide you with the information you need to perform the recruiting process on your own for free, our advisors are here to help you as you need it. Becoming a paying member of our program means you will have unlimited access to all of our customized resources, one-on-one advising throughout your recruiting process, and maintain peace of mind (for athletes and parents) so that you can focus on school and training. We work behind the scenes helping you position yourself in the best way possible without the negative stigma that using recruiting services can have. In fact, we don't even consider our program a recruiting service. We are simply athlete advisors, driving forward a new movement in finding the right fit!
Whether you are just beginning your college search or you have become frustrated by the process, participating in our team-matching program will provide you with direction and guidance needed as you navigate through thousands of potential schools. Our advisors perform screening sessions with athletes that simply means they are asked in-depth and thought provoking questions about what they are looking for in a team, coach and academic environment. We take the results of each athletes screening and compile a customized list of schools from our team database.
ACCURATE TEAM DATABASES
Having team databases that are accurate is a near impossible task due to the constant changes within athletic departments that happen on a monthly basis. Unlike other services that use team and coach information that can be more than 2 years old, we update our databases manually every 3 months. The worst thing you can do is use a recruiting service that has outdated contact information. First impressions are critical and addressing emails to a coach that is not the current coach can be very detrimental.
MORE THAN A RECRUITING SERVICE!
Our program requires a long term commitment and dedication and is not for everyone. We require parents to be involved and athletes are expected to perform various research based tasks throughout the recruiting process. This is not a quick and easy process, we take the time to make sure that athletes are doing what they need to be doing and learning valuable professional skill sets. We maintain a certain level of quality when it comes to our athletes so that coaches know when an athlete has gone through our program they will be more prepared to handle the demands of life as a student athlete.
